Former York City goalkeeper Andy Leaning has returned to Bootham Crescent as part-time goalkeeping coach.

He replaces Simon Miotto who left the club earlier this month.

Leaning made 86 appearances for the Minstermen during the mid-eighties, including twice against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

He originally played for Rowntrees Mackintosh in the Northern Counties East League before joining York in 1984.

One-time British Rail employee Leaning impressed manager Denis Smith sufficiently to soon earn a professional contract and then replace regular goalkeeper Mike Astbury after he was injured.

Named as ‘Man of the Match’ at Anfield following a heroic performance as valiant York matched mighty Liverpool for long stages, he later had spells at Sheffield United and Bristol City.
