York City Ladies completed a league double over big rivals Hull City with a terrific 5-2 victory moving them top of the table at the Hull University Sports Ground.
But as with their male counterparts only yesterday, the visitors had to survive a strong second-half recovery from their opponents after leading 3-0 at the interval.
The Minsterbelles had already launched their own comeback in midweek when beating their latest hosts 3-2 in the reverse fixture.
Nikki Brown struck twice and Lauren Shuttleworth, Louise Ross and Megan Bramham added further efforts. Rebecca Beech twice replied for Hull early in the second-half.
Meanwhile, City’s reserves were also successful with a narrow 1-0 victory at Guisborough in their opening league game of the season. Samantha Terry scored the winner and Helen Dalby was named player of the game.
York City Ladies: Chloe Precious, Josie Hewson, Ruth Brazier, Abbi Webster, Jess Barnes, Nikki Brown, Sara Renfrew, Beth Clayton, Louise Ross, Lauren Shuttleworth, Jazz Whitwell
