York City have signed Derry City striker David McDaid for a small fee. However, the 22-year-old won’t be involved at Gillingham this weekend as international clearance wasn’t secured in time.

McDaid has impressed manager Gary Mills on trial after scoring seventeen goals for Derry in the League of Ireland last season. That prompted interest from Fleetwood Town but a move to York’s League Two rivals fell through before Christmas.

He becomes the second new striker arriving at Bootham Crescent in a week and follows Middlesbrough-born ex-Breidablik forward Ben Everson.

Since then the Minstermen have also recruited defensive pair Jack O’Connell (Blackburn Rovers) and Jameel Ible (Salford City).
