There was disappointment for former York City RTC’s Under-16s captain Jess Park while leading England in their second group game at the Women’s Under-17 European Championship finals in Lithuania on Saturday morning.

Having opened the tournament with a 2-2 draw against Poland earlier this week, when sixteen-year-old Park was on target alongside Birmingham City’s Paris McKenzie, the young Lionesses fell behind after only four minutes courtesy of Spain’s Paula Arana Montes.

However, England skipper Park, now with WSL1 leaders Manchester City, set up Aston Villa’s Ebony Salmon for an equaliser just ahead of the half-hour mark.

But Eva Maria Navarro then restored the Spanish lead with ten minutes remaining as they moved top of Group B on four points.

It means England must now beat Italy on Tuesday in order to have a realistic chance of making the semi-finals of the competition.
