Weather permitting, York City host another important game when Aldershot Town visit Bootham Crescent this weekend. The Minstermen may still be falling just short of mid-table but the fixture at least allows them an opportunity of claiming their first ‘double’ since returning to the Football League this season. That follows Matty Blair and Jason Walker netting early second-half goals in a 2-0 victory at the Recreation Ground in late September. Opponents Aldershot are still in deep relegation trouble but come into the contest on the back of successive league victories over Accrington Stanley and Barnet since the turn of the year, plus an FA Cup third round triumph at the expense of Rotherham United.
“Chris Smith has had an x-ray on his foot because we thought he might have a little stress fracture, but we don’t think that’s the case and he should be okay with an injection if tomorrow’s game is on. David McGurk is fine as well,” York manager Gary Mills told The Press.
York City Team News:
Central defenders Chris Smith (foot) and David McGurk (neck) should both recover in time to line up for the Minstermen. New striker Ben Everson is also available after receiving international clearance following his arrival from Iceland. But attacking trio Ashley Chambers, Michael Coulson and Oli Johnson remain out with injuries and on loan Alex Rodman is ineligible to face his parent club.
York City (probable): Ingham, Oyebanjo, McGurk, Smith, Fyfield, Parslow, Kerr, Potts, McLaughlin, Blair, Walker
subs: Musselwhite, Allan, Challinor, Bullock, McReady, Reed, Everson
Player to watch: Ben Everson
New signing who is still totally unknown in this country after scoring goals in Iceland.
Aldershot Town Team News:
Aldershot striker Danny Hylton serves the second of a three-game ban after being sent-off following his recent FA Cup hat-trick against Rotherham United. Nine-goal top scorer Craig Reid should lead the attack with former York marksman Michael Rankine on the bench after failing to score in his last 23 games. But on loan Dani Lopez has already managed five in ten appearances since coming in from Stevenage.
Aldershot Town (probable): Young, Herd, Brown, Bradley, Tonkin, Cadogan, Hector, Rose, Vincenti, Reid, Lopez
Player to watch: Michael Rankine
Former York striker but now without a league goal in fifteen months.
