Fans’ favourite Richard Cresswell believes the large and raucous home support can make the real difference ahead of tonight’s play-off semi-final first-leg with Fleetwood Town at Bootham Crescent.

Former England Under-21 international Cresswell was recently named as the club’s development consultant and is a veteran of four play-off campaigns with Sheffield United, Leeds United and
Preston North End in the past.
“The fans can help the team get a result in the first leg,” Cresswell told The Press. “The players feed off a good atmosphere and I think that helped push us over the line last season. Everybody could see the lads were doing their best and the noise around Bootham Crescent had a massive impact.
“Getting behind the gaffer, staff and all the players makes a big difference and can give a team that extra edge,” he stressed.
The Minstermen are the current form team in the division and would have already claimed the title by a massive six points had the season begun on New Year’s Day.
