David Ferguson says York City must confirm their end-of-season play-off place as soon as possible.

The Minstermen have just eight league games remaining and can only realistically target finishing as high as fourth in the table.

Their final day opponents Brackley Town are already eleven points clear of them in third with still a couple of matches in hand.

City next welcome much-improved Southport to Bootham Crescent on Tuesday evening, although they found their recent impressive run checked by a surprise weekend 3-1 home defeat to Alfreton Town.

“We’ve got to get that play-off place sorted as quickly as we can,” England ‘C’ international Ferguson admitted to The Press. “Because we don’t want to be going to Brackley on the last day needing a win or a point.

“It’s looking most likely that we’ll finish between fourth and seventh now but, first of all, we’ve got to make sure we get there and three points against Southport would put us in a good position again.”
