York City’s reserves shared a 1-1 draw with Grimsby Town in their latest Central League fixture at Bootham Crescent on Wednesday afternoon.

Saint Kitts and Nevis international Theo Wharton saw an early clearance diverted onto his own crossbar while team-mate Harry Thompson shot wide from the edge of the opposite area.

Brandon Buckley replied with a 25-yard free-kick over the crossbar, although it was Flynn McNaughton taking advantage of Vinnie Steels’ cross to open the scoring on nineteen minutes.  Both youngsters had appeared as second-half substitutes for City’s first-team at Nuneaton Town only last night.

However, the visitors were to draw level just past the half-hour mark, with Rumarn Burrell stealing possession from Jake Watson and slotting past goalkeeper Ryan Whitley.

Mariners’ Buckley fired against an upright just ahead of the break, while York goalscorer McNaughton drove into the side-netting upon the restart.

The visitors’ Tom Sawyer then cleared the target from distance and substitute Joey Hope was denied by Whitley.

Meanwhile, his opposite number Ollie Battersby later turned aside skipper Thompson’s 25-yard free-kick and similarly blocked Aaron Haswell’s angled drive.
