Former York City favourite Andy McMillan has been named as academy manager at League Two newcomers Grimsby Town.

The 48-year-old South African-born ex-defender will also become their youth team manager on a daily basis, his new club reports.

McMillan only left a similar role at Bootham Crescent this month having previously been responsible for youth development during an earlier spell.

He’s also held coaching positions with Notts County, Barnet, Lincoln City and Hull City in the past – that after 492 senior games for York in his playing career, leaving him second in terms of overall appearances for the club.
