Former York City striker Michael Rankine has joined Conference Premier side Altrincham.

The 30-year-old arrives at Moss Lane having scored four goals in 31 games for Gary Mills’ Gateshead last season.
“I had a good relationship with him, and still have, but I didn’t play as much as I would have liked,” Rankine told Altrincham’s official website. “I’ve no gripes with him, but that’s how it was. I played more towards the end of the campaign, but really I could have done with starting more games.
“At my age, it’s important I’m playing for people who appreciate what I can do and what I can bring to the squad,” he added. “It’s up to me to prove I’m worth picking, of course, but I’m looking forward to showing everyone at Altrincham what I’m about.”
Doncaster-born Rankine includes previous spells at Hereford United, Aldershot Town, Rushden & Diamonds, Alfreton Town, Scunthorpe United and Barrow, and struck 24 goals in 103 appearances during a couple of separate stays at Bootham Crescent.
