Defender Daniel Rowe has become the second lately released York City player to join Evo-Stik League Division 1 South club Frickley Athletic.

The 22-year-old made a dozen appearances for the Minstermen last season having arrived in October following his departure from League Two outfit Wycombe Wanderers.

He notably scored on his senior debut in a 3-2 home defeat to Tamworth, but later completely fell out of favour at Bootham Crescent due to ‘personal reasons’ and was released at the end of the campaign after an agreement was reached over the remaining year of his contract.

Born in Middlesbrough, Rowe began his career at Rotherham United, and also includes loan spells with Stalybridge Celtic, Barrow (twice) and Wycombe (three times), until finally moving to the Chairboys permanently in June 2015.

Earlier this week, ex-Northern Ireland Under-21 international striker James Gray also signed for Frickley after similarly being shown the door at York.

He had earlier stays with Wrexham, Southport, Glenavon, Torquay United, Accrington Stanley, Kettering Town and Darlington.
