Former York City midfielders James Berrett and Sean McAllister have been released by League Two outfit Grimsby Town.

Berrett, 29, made 40 appearances and scored five goals for the Minstermen following his arrival from Yeovil Town in June 2015. He’d already had earlier spells with Carlisle United and Huddersfield Town.

Meanwhile, McAllister, 30, featured four times while on loan to York during their latest campaign, and includes Scunthorpe United, Shewsbury Town and Sheffield Wednesday amongst his previous clubs.

But the Mariners have offered new deals to ex-City duo Luke Summerfield and Martyn Woolford.

However, others departing Blundell Park are Ben Davies, Nathan Clarke, Tom Sawyer, Jack Keeble, Ben Killip, Scott Vernon, Karleigh Osborne, Gary McSheffrey and Zak Mills.
