Former York City duo Bradley Fewster and Matty Dixon have been released by National League North rivals Spennymoor Town.

Ex-England Under-19 international Fewster, 22, netted eight goals in 24 appearances for the Minstermen following his arrival on loan from Middlesbrough in November 2015 – and promptly scored on his first-team debut against Accrington Stanley.

He also had a later temporary stay with Hartlepool United before most recently featuring in 20 games without finding the net at Spennymoor.

While representing his country, Fewster had already demonstrated his goal prowess at three different levels, also proving a regular on the scoresheet for hometown club Boro’s reserves.  He includes a senior goal for them during a couple of League Cup displays in August 2014.

Meanwhile, Dixon, 23, made 21 appearances for York upon his arrival from Hull City in January 2016. He totalled 33 games for Moors last term and has also spent time with both North Ferriby United and Gainsborough Trinity.

Spennymoor are similarly releasing Dan Lowson, Chris Chantler, Jordan Porter and Greg Rutherford, while long-serving right-back Kallum Griffiths and former Gateshead and Darlington centre-back Joe Tait have each declined the offer of new deals.

Griffiths, 28, was rapidly closing in on 400 games for the club during his nine-year stay and is a real supporters’ favourite – with already early speculation of a possible move to Bootham Crescent.

“Leaving a club I have spent so long at was a very difficult decision, and one I have thought about long and hard for a while now,” he told Spennymoor’s official website. “I love the club and have spent nine brilliant years here, but it’s now time for me to move on and pursue my next challenge.”

York boss Martin Gray has earlier stated he hopes to conclude another couple of deals this week.
