York City boss Martin Foyle was a contented figure after his side registered their biggest win of the season at bottom club Grays Athletic.
Revitalised leading scorer Richard Brodie led the way with a brace and Paul Harsley and Neil Barrett also found the net in a comfortable victory.
“It was a a very convincing 4-0 win,” Foyle told BBC Radio York. “Hard because the weather was gale-force winds and we decided to take it first-half and pressed in.
“We had lots of chances first-half, we were huffing and puffing and creating. There was a good finish from Paul Harsley that probably relaxed us a bit.”
The Minstermen managed to score in excess of one goal in a match for the first time in seventeen games – a run that stretched back to mid-January when Brodie was last on target in a 4-1 home win against Hayes & Yeading United.
“We’ve done a lot of crossing and finishing yesterday, we’ve come away from the team shape for a day,” Foyle continued. “You could see the lads, they were bright.
“But personally I think Michael Gash was outstanding tonight and he looked like he was holding the ball up, pinning people and winning headers and he had a spring back in his step.”
The only bad point of a successful night for the visitors was when defender Djoumin Sangare had to be replaced just before the half-time interval. However, Foyle confirmed that his injury wasn’t serious.
“No, Jim’s not that bad. Sometimes in these games you’ve got to take precautions, but I couldn’t get a better replacement than David McGurk, with Danny Parslow not even in the sixteen.
“It’s a little bit hard at the moment because eveybody’s fit. Levi Mackin’s back in and he can’t get a game, Richard Pacquette can’t get a game. But my job is trying to get the team into the play-offs and one step further.”
And Foyle ended with a stern note of caution as he warned: “We’re off Thursday and we’re having a hard day Friday. I’ve told them that already. We’re not in the comfort zone because if we get in the comfort zone we can be an average side.”
