York City boss Gary Mills certainly won’t be releasing rejuvenated midfielder Michael Potts during the January transfer window.

“If somebody rang me up and wanted Pottsy today, I would not let them have him” – Gary Mills

The 21-year-old has often appeared surplus to requirements since arriving from Blackburn Rovers eighteen months ago and while managing only a couple of starts at Bootham Crescent.

Following his lack of opportunities he was subsequently placed on the transfer list, until receiving a surprise call-up for the visit to Rochdale – where he scored twice in 3-2 victory at the beginning of last month. Since then he has been a regular fixture in the side over the past half-dozen games.

“If somebody rang me up and wanted Pottsy today, I would not let them have him,” Mills told The Press. “He’s such a good professional and a good lad to have around the club.

“He knew he had to do better and was waiting for that opportunity,” he added. “He does not want to let that go now and I’ve been really pleased with his performances.”
