Luckless striker Oli Johnson is set for at least another month on the sidelines after undergoing groin surgery.

‘When you sign players, the last thing you want is for them to have injury problems’ – Gary Mills

The former Norwich City forward has endured a miserable time since joining the Minstermen in the summer and been restricted to only half-a-dozen substitute league appearances, plus a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy start against Coventry City.

“He will have a little operation on his groin that will keep him out for another four to five weeks,” manager Gary Mills confirmed to The Press. “It’s been tough with him because, when you sign players, the last thing you want is for them to have injury problems.”

Meanwhile, defender Lanre Oyebanjo was due to return to training today following a hamstring injury while midfielder John McReady should be back in around three weeks after a dislocated shoulder.
