York City midfielder Patrick McLaughlin has been officially credited with the goal scored during the recent 1-1 draw at League Two leaders Gillingham.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international struck direct from a corner at the Priestfield Stadium before Gills substitute Cody McDonald later equalised.

McLaughlin’s first-half effort was initially credited as an own-goal to home defender Charlie Lee following his attempted interception at the near post.

The 22-year-old former Newcastle United reserves skipper now has a total of four goals in 27 appearances for the Minstermen this season after earlier strikes against Oxford United and Burton Albion (twice).
