York City boss Martin Gray says other players must regularly step up in support of leading marksman Jon Parkin.

The 35-year-old is already way out in front this season on sixteen goals, with the other main strikers still at the club, Amari Morgan-Smith and currently sidelined pair Louis Almond and Michael Rankine, totalling just seven between them.

Meanwhile, recent signing James Gray is yet to open his account in six appearances.

“I feel at times that we rely on him [Parkin] so much and the other forwards need to start contributing when they get good chances, which they had at Boston,” manager Gray told The Press. “As forwards, the others have to stake their claims and convert their chances and we’re not doing that.

“Their goalkeeper made an outstanding save in the second half, but you’d expect the ball to be in the back of the net,” he added. “[Adriano] Moke should have also got scored another in the first half and, with all these chances, the ball and everything has to go in the back of the net.”
