Former winners York City continue their FA Trophy quest when visiting Harlow Town in the second round of the competition this weekend.

Harlow are currently mid-table in the Isthmian League Premier but on an excellent run of form with eight victories and a draw from their latest nine games.

The part-timers also accounted for National League play-off chasers Eastleigh on their artificial 3G pitch in the previous round.

York, who knocked out Worcester City at the same stage, were training on Stamford FC’s plastic pitch prior to the game following a helping hand from their former Wembley favourite Jon Challinor. That after already practicing under similar conditions at York St John University’s 3G playing surface on Haxby Road.

Despite their well-documented problems, City have lost only two of their last seven games and should perhaps find the temporary release of pressure from their own relegation fight beneficial while attempting to make further progress in the competition.

Vital Quotes:

“Jon [Parkin] has a bit of a knee problem and 3G pitches are not good on the joints, so we’ll make a decision on whether he starts or not,” manager Gary Mills told The Press. “He’ll be involved in the 16 but, if it wasn’t a 3G pitch, he would be starting – there’s no doubt about that.”

Harlow Town Team News:

Sixteen-goal leading scorer Alex Read could be a doubt for the hosts after submitting a transfer request, while goalkeeper Ed Thompson is definitely out with a dislocated knee. Forward pair Joe Benjamin and Junior Dadson are also current casualties.
Harlow Town (probable): Hughes, Pope, Sonko, Jones, Eadie, Muguo, Gordon, Small, Noto, da Costa, Read

Player to watch: Ibrahima Sonko

Former Senegal international and top-flight performer with Reading, Stoke City and Hull City.

York City Team News:

The visitors were expected to hand debuts to latest arrivals Daniel Parslow and Amari Morgan-Smith. However, they could decide to leave striker Jon Parkin on the bench due to reservations over the playing surface and a slight knee problem. Winger Aidan Connolly [thigh] is still unavailable having suffered another setback in training but midfielder Danny Holmes has recovered from illness.
York City (probable): Letheren, Parslow, Klukowski, Fry, Rooney, Heslop, Lappin, Newton, Whittle, Morgan-Smith, Parkin
subs (from): Moke, Fenwick, McDaid, Holmes, Woodland, Nti

Player to watch: Daniel Parslow

Makes an emotional return to a club that he’s already served with distinction for almost a decade and more than three-hundred times.
