Trialist Alex Kempster has been given a professional contract with York City after scoring a hat-trick in the reserves’ 5-2 victory against Hartlepool United at Bootham Crescent on Tuesday afternoon.

The 22-year-old marksman struck three times in eighteen minutes following former Hartlepool winger Connor Smith reducing the visitors’ early two-goal advantage before the break.

Kempster, who was with Whitley Bay, had only trained with the club twenty-four earlier and was one of two unnamed trialists included in the starting eleven.

Fellow new arrivals Marcus Williams (Guiseley) and Vinny Steels (Darlington) were also on the winning side.
