Striker Calvin Andrew revealed manager Nigel Worthington instantly lifted his troops following the disappointment of conceding an injury-time equaliser to Accrington Stanley at the weekend.

“Once we got in the changing room, the manager said a few words and it was heads-up time” – Calvin Andrew

Recent arrival Andrew, 27, was earlier handed a full debut at the expense of Ryan Bowman but saw Michael Coulson’s 61st minute penalty dramatically cancelled out by visitors’ substitute Shay McCartan half-an-hour later.

The Minstermen have an immediate chance to regain lost ground when visiting play-off rivals Oxford United in another key promotion encounter on Good Friday.

“As we all walked off the pitch, we felt disappointed at conceding so late in the game but, once we got in the changing room, the manager said a few words and it was heads-up time,” Andrew told The Press. “That was important because it’s only natural you feel deflated but, after the manager said his bits and pieces, we were confident and ready to go again.

“It was a point towards where we want to be and we are still in with a shout so we have to be confident going into the next few games and we will now go to Oxford and give it our best.”
