York City’s newly-crowned ‘Clubman of the Year’ Sean Newton has vowed to help the club in attempting an immediate return to the National League.

The 28-year-old only signed an eighteen-month deal with the Minstermen in January following a successful loan spell from Wrexham.

However, the Liverpool-born defender was unable to prevent a second successive relegation for them despite his own valiant efforts.

“Thank you to everyone that voted me player of the season,” Newton commented on social network site twitter. “All we can do is stick together, win at Wembley and then fight next season for promotion.

“I am not looking for a new club. I am staying, I won’t leave this club till I’m not wanted,” he assured. “I’m more than happy to come and play for this club. I’m part of the reason we have gone down so only right to help get it back.”
