York City have confirmed the departure of Academy Manager and former starring defender Andy McMillan.

The 48-year-old returned to the club a couple of years ago following previous coaching positions at Notts County, Barnet, Lincoln City and Hull City. He’d also earlier held youth development coaching responsibilities at York.

During his playing career the South African-born right-back made 492 senior appearances in more than a decade of wonderful service with the Minstermen, leaving him second in terms of overall appearances for the club.

Those included a memorable Wembley play-off final triumph in May 1993 and famous League Cup victories against both Manchester United and Everton.

He had later playing spells with Ayr United, and more locally, Nestlé Rowntree, Pickering Town and Haxby United.
