York City boss Jackie McNamara is considering offering a deal to former Dorchester Town midfielder Franklyn Clarke.

The 23-year-old appeared as a second-half trialist while the visitors eased to a 3-0 victory at Stalybridge Celtic in their second pre-season friendly.

Clarke has been playing part-time while combining studies at Bournemouth University, and also includes previous spells with Wimborne Town and Blackfield & Langley.

“He’s looked quite good since he’s come in and he’s somebody who was recommended to us, so we’re looking at him,” McNamara told The Press. “He’s been at university down in Bournemouth and has had a few trials with clubs down there, but has come back up north and we’ll see if anything comes of it.”

Meanwhile, McNamara was happy with his newly-shaped team’s performance after always looking well in charge at the Bower Fold, where Simon Heslop, Scott Fenwick and Reece Thompson were rewarded with goals.

“I was pleased with how we handled the physicality,” he admitted. “There were some tackles going in, but you don’t want it being like a testimonial and we kept our discipline. We played 3-4-3 and there’s a lot of pace in the team now to get in behind teams. I like a three at the back as well and thought we looked solid.”

The Minstermen are next in action in a behind-closed-doors match at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.
