Recovered midfielder John McReady made a goalscoring return as York City comfortably despatched Northallerton Town in their North Riding Senior Cup quarter-final at Bootham Crescent.
McReady netted twice and either side of youth-team winger Reece Kelly also being on target in an easy 3-0 victory for hosts including a number of senior professionals.
But it took a serious mix-up in defence from the visitors to hand York the lead with ten minutes of the opening half-remaining. Goalkeeper James Briggs could only clear a sloppy attempted back-pass straight towards McReady and the former Darlington midfielder returned it into an empty net.
Home striker Jamie Reed twice went close to adding to it until Kelly doubled the advantage two minutes from the break.
The Minstermen had to wait until 69 minutes for their next goal and again Kelly was involved as his cross was knocked back at the far post by Lanre Oyebanjo to allow McReady a simple tap-in. Jon Challinor then struck a 30-yard effort against an upright.
