Manager Nigel Worthington is expected to announce his retained list later this week, with Lanre Oyebanjo, Michael Coulson, Adam Reed, Calvin Andrew, Tom Allan and Chris Dickinson all out-of-contract.
However, recruitment for the new campaign is already well in place and the club are currently in discussions with a number of selected targets.
“We have identified new recruits for next season and negotiations are already well advanced with a number of players,” chairman Jason McGill confirmed to The Press. “Since last summer, the season has been all-consuming and I could do with a break but we will regroup and look forward to pre-season and then the start of a new campaign.”
McGill also declared himself as “very proud” after the Minstermen narrowly missed out on a fifth Wembley appearance in five years following their play-off semi-final loss to Fleetwood Town.
“I was obviously disappointed on Friday night but I was very, very proud of the players, Nigel, the management staff and the supporters,” he added. “The performance was brilliant and epitomised what York City are all about. We never give up and keep going and going.”
