York City face old rivals Doncaster Rovers for the second time in three seasons in the Capital One Cup later this evening. Almost two years to the day the Minstermen narrowly lost on penalties to their hosts in what was their first competitive fixture since famously defeating Luton Town in the play-off final at Wembley in May 2012. Doncaster had been at that particular time a full three divisions higher than their opponents. Now that gap has closed considerably, although League One Rovers should arrive in great heart following an excellent 3-0 victory at fellow-relegated side Yeovil Town on the opening day of the new campaign.

York are again without strike duo Wes Fletcher and Jake Hyde while winger Josh Carson remains a longer-term casualty. Midfielder Luke Summerfield is however pressing for a start having come off the bench at the weekend. Fellow debutant Ben Hirst, 17, should again be involved with numbers still decidedly short in attack.
