York City midfielder Patrick McLaughlin is facing a race for fitness ahead of the weekend arrival of league leaders Gillingham.

“We won’t know until the back end of this week whether or not he will have any chance to play against Gillingham” – Gary Mills

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international skipper was replaced during the latest 4-1 triumph against Bristol Rovers following a heavy first-half clash with Danny Woodards.

He was immediately taken to York Hospital’s accident and emergency department and diagnosed with a bruised lung and kidney.

“Paddy suffered quite an impact,” manager Gary Mills told The Press. “The challenge was right in front of our position in the dug-out. He had to go for the ball and he really went for it.

“He is going to be okay but with the bruising where it is, it’s going to take time to sort out,” he added. “We won’t know until the back end of this week whether or not he will have any chance to play against Gillingham.”
