York City’s on loan winger Courtney Pitt is desperate to taste end of season success after already twice suffering defeats in the play-off final.

Pitt is currently on loan at Bootham Crescent until the end of the season. But having twice experienced heartbreak in the play-off final over the last couple of years, he is not yet discounting the Minstermen’s challenge for automatic promotion.

However, York’s hopes have been seriously hit lately following successive home defeats to struggling opposition after they had previously remained undefeated in front of their own fans for 23 games.

But Pitt steered them back on track last week when his first goal for the club brought them a vital victory at fellow promotion hopefuls Mansfield Town.

“I’m used to the play-offs, but I have lost the last two so I want to win it this year,” Pitt told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“The play-offs are a lottery and it does take luck to get to the final.

“Hopefully we can do it this season, it was heartbreaking in the last two seasons because I didn’t think that my team really did themselves justice.

“York can get there this year as they are built on strong foundations in defence,” he continued.

“The title race is still wide open. York are not out of it, we just need to keep winning until the end of the season.”
