Holders York City Ladies again attempt to complete their County Cup semi-final at neighbours Poppleton Ladies on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2.00pm).

That follows the original tie being postponed last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch in Poppleton.

The Minsterbelles are bidding for a North Riding Senior Cup hat-trick for the second time in just eight years having also previously consecutively taken the silverware between 2010-12.

Indeed no other club can match York’s outstanding record of winning the trophy seven times while appearing in ten of the twelve finals played. Five-times winners Middlesbrough are the next highest achievers and on eight finals.

However, Boro are already out of this year’s competition having suffered a walkover defeat to Guisborough in the opening round.

Bizarrely City Ladies were also to benefit from a non-appearance from visitors Brooklyn Ladies in their quarter-final – as in fact were weekend opponents Poppleton against Cleveland.

Nevertheless, York will be strong favourites on Sunday having previously defeated their hosts while on their way to lifting the trophy in April 2016.

On that occasion, Nat Eustance, Beth Clayton, Becca Dawson, Kayleigh Davis and Ellie Harding struck in a 5-1 semi-final triumph. That despite leading goalscorer Lucy Lendhill being cup-tied; before the Belles then overcame old adversaries Middlesbrough in the final on penalties.

Whoever progresses this time will meet either Redcar Town or Boro Rangers in the final, with City already knocking the latter out of the League Cup earlier this season.

Meanwhile, there’s a vital top-of-the-table clash elsewhere, North East Regional Premier League leaders Durham Cestria hosting Norton & Stockton Ancients in the game of the season so far.

Otherwise, bottom club Wakefield entertain RACA Tynedale, and third-placed Hartlepool United visit the side immediately below them, Wallsend BC.
