Released York City goalkeeper Jon Worsnop has signed for National League North rivals Southport.

The 34-year-old departed Bootham Crescent earlier today having made fourteen appearances since joining the Minstermen from Bradford Park Avenue last summer.

He’s likely to make an immediate home debut against Blyth Spartans this weekend, with both Mark Halstead and Iain Turner currently receiving treatment.

“Jon is someone I’ve known personally for a number of years,” manager Kevin Davies told Southport’s official website. “He’s got a great attitude, he’s a big character. He’s vocal and can organise the defence.

“He possibly suffered a little bit with the change of management at York but he brings a wealth of experience and we’re really pleased to have him on board.”

Worsnop has also played for both Chester clubs, Aberystwyth Town, Droylsden, Leigh Genesis, Guiseley and FC United of Manchester after beginning his career with hometown side Bradford City.
