Released York City striker James Gray has signed for Evo-Stik League Division 1 South club Frickley Athletic.

The 25-year-old scored just once in twenty appearances for the Minstermen last season, while also including a loan spell at their National League North rivals Tamworth.

Gray already has  previous stays with Wrexham, Southport, Glenavon, Torquay United, Accrington Stanley, Kettering Town and Darlington  during his career.

He was also capped eleven times for Northern Ireland at Under-21 level while scoring twice.

“This an another excellent signing for our club, we are delighted that James is joining us at Frickley Athletic,” manager Spencer Fearn told Frickley’s official website. “He is a great character with a terrific work ethic as well as being an excellent player.

“He will certainly add more quality to our team and we are all looking forward to welcoming him to the club when pre-season starts in June.”

Frickley finished third in Evo-Stik South last season and would have been second behind champions Basford United but for a points reduction for fielding an ineligible player.
