Back to November 2013, and a couple of new signings who were destined to have a major impact on a soon-to-be resurgent York City’s fortunes.

Manager Nigel Worthington has reacted to the midweek FA Cup defeat to Bristol Rovers by bringing in a couple of new players on loan.

Centre-back Keith Lowe, 28, is already approaching 300 senior games and arrives from Cheltenham Town with a view to a permanent deal.

Lowe includes previous spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley, Queens Park Rangers, Kidderminster Harriers and Hereford United.

Meanwhile, Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Nick Pope, 21, has also been signed following earlier temporary stays with Aldershot Town, Cambridge United, Welling United and Harrow Borough.

“Keith Lowe has played a good number of games and is a good age, experience-wise,” Worthington told The Press. “He can organise a defence, which is something we probably need a bit more of.

“Nick Pope is young but he’s got experience and high potential so we want him to come in and do a job for us.”

“Coming to a team like York is a massive opportunity so I am delighted to be here,” the highly-rated Pope admitted. “I am hoping for a lot of games, clean sheets, wins and good performances to take York higher up the League and, then, we will see where we are in January.

“I want to set a benchmark and have got to put that option in the manager’s mind to give him a decision to make,” he added. “It’s obviously early days and we will see how everything goes but I would love to stay here until the end of the season if that’s possible and, then, go from there.”
