York City skipper Chris Smith has been confirmed as available for this weekend’s home clash with Bristol Rovers.

“The gaffer wasn’t pleased with the yellow card but it was just instinct” – Chris Smith

The 31-year-old centre-back collected a late booking in the weekend defeat at Plymouth Argyle following a heavy injury-time challenge. But it was only his fourth of the campaign and he must therefore avoid a fifth caution and subsequent suspension until the cut-off point of 31st December.

“The gaffer wasn’t pleased with the yellow card but it was just instinct,” Smith told The Press. “I’ve been pretty pleased with my discipline for a defender otherwise.

“Suspensions are always there of course and I want to play every game if I am fit and the manager chooses me,” he added. “If I’m suspended, it will also mean I have to fight to win my place back.”
