York City skipper Sean Newton is expected to be sidelined until into the new year.

The 29-year-old former Wrexham defender suffered an ankle injury during the weekend FA Trophy defeat at Kidderminster Harriers.

“Hopefully be back before end of January,” he announced on social media site twitter. “Got a scan end of week, need to wait for the swelling to go down.”

Newton has already scored four times this season since being moved into a more advanced midfield role, with the most recent of those arriving in the FA Cup defeat to South Shields at the end of September.

The Minstermen are also currently without the services of Louis Almond [shoulder], Clovis Kamdjo [knee] and Michael Rankine [high blood pressure] going into their Christmas programme.
