Tamworth defender Richard Tait is really looking forward to his side’s visit to York City this weekend.

That is principally because his Kelso-based father will be making the trip to watch his son play for only the second time this season.

“He came to see me play against Gateshead earlier in the season,” Tait told the Tamworth Herald.

“And he is coming to the York game because that’s not too bad a journey.”

The former Nottingham Forest defender will be aiming for revenge after scoring twice in a midfield role for the Lambs in a 3-2 defeat to the Minstermen earlier in the season.

“That game has bittersweet memories for me,” he continued. “I played well that night but we were superb as a team as well. It was just disappointing that we lost the game.

“We didn’t deserve to lose but hopefully we can turn in another performance like that on Saturday – with the right result this time.

“It was a cracking game that night and I expect Saturday will be a good one as well,” he added.

“They are a good side but so are we and we have shown all season, and again in the last couple of matches, that we can live with the best teams in this league.”
