York City manager Martin Gray was hoping to add another new face to his squad for the weekend visit to AFC Telford United.

The Minstermen chief has already brought in seven new players since being appointed into the role at the beginning of October, in addition to re-signing young former midfielder Tyler Walton.

“There’s a possibility we might be able to bring a player in for the weekend – if it all comes off,” Gray told BBC Radio York. “We’re waiting for that possibly to go through for the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Gray has described the visit to AFC Telford as a “must-win” encounter – that following the totally unacceptable performance at Boston United last time out.

“We need to be in the play-offs, it’s as simple as that,” he continued. “We’re sitting ninth [in the table] and it’s not good enough for anybody. So we understand the expectations and the pressures that come with that.

“We’ve got to get back into the play-offs come this Saturday at quarter-to-five. It’s a must-win game. We feel that we let everybody down on Saturday [at Boston] as a club, and we’ve all got to take a portion of that criticism on board because that’s what we are here for.

“And equally we’ve got to give our fans something to come back on the bus on Saturday with an outstanding performance.”
