Highly-rated Middlesbrough youngster Alex Pattison is returning to York City on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old midfielder already impressed during a recent one-month temporary spell at Bootham Crescent, until then rejoining his parent club at the beginning of last month.

However, Pattison will now appear for Boro’s reserves on Monday evening ahead of returning to the Minstermen the following day.

Meanwhile, manager Martin Gray was also hoping to sign an unnamed striker who scored twice in an Under-23 game last night.

“We were told by Middlesbrough last night that we are going to have him [Pattison] in for Monday,” he told BBC Radio York. “He’s going to play in Middlesbrough’s reserves on Monday night and then come to York on the Tuesday until the end of the season.

“So that’s really positive news. But he won’t be the only personnel we’re looking to bring in next week,” Gray admitted. “We are looking to strengthen the squad. Work starts on the way back. We’ll be on the phones on the bus speaking to managers and coaches.

“One of the players scored a couple of goals last night for the Under-23s,” he revealed. “But we’ve got to wait until we’re allowed to take them. We’ve got to be patient with bigger clubs. It’s not nice but hopefully come Tuesday/Wednesday we’ll have two new bodies into the club.”

Meanwhile, the York chief conceded it was another couple of points dropped at Tamworth after Aidan Connolly’s second-half opener was spectacularly cancelled out by Darryl Knights in the final minute.

“Two points dropped,” he insisted. “It was a great strike and [Adam] Bartlett said he got a fingertip to it. But I think in general it’s two points dropped.

“It was a game where we started well and had lots of possession. They dropped into a 4-5-1 and made things very difficult – and were very hard to break down. So it was a game where we had to be patient and not concede – which we didn’t until late.

“But I thought the performance second-half was very strong. We were on the front foot and needed a second goal to kill them off. I felt confident, but it was a great strike that gets them the point.”
