York City once again faltered against lowly opposition when being held to a weekend 1-1 draw with Alfreton Town at Bootham Crescent.

The Minstermen couldn’t have had a better start after Simon Heslop struck across goal from a quickly-taken Aidan Connolly free-kick on just five minutes.

However, former City defender Tom Allan – who still works at the club as a community coach – was allowed a comfortable header to level before half-time.

Results elsewhere meant that York actually gained on their promotion rivals, although crucially none of the top-three were playing.
