York City produced a vastly improved display to overcome National League North leaders Salford City by a single-goal at Bootham Crescent.

Aidan Connolly scored their first-half winner when his cross from the left cleared goalkeeper Max Crocombe and went in off the far post.

Leading goalscorer Jon Parkin later smashed a penalty against the crossbar having been pushed by Tom Walker inside the area.

Connolly also forced a superb save from Crocombe, while York’s David Ferguson had earlier brilliantly cleared off the line.
