York City Futsal’s Super League campaign ended with a resounding 8-1 defeat as leaders Reading Escolla clinched a first-ever national league title at the Powerleague Trafford Centre in Manchester.

With the Minstermen already safe from relegation, the onus completely fell onto their opponents to secure the victory they required to lift the trophy at the specially rearranged venue.

And that was never in doubt as the self-assured visitors struck three times before the interval, and then added another quartet of goals before their rivals managed a solitary reply from seventeen-year-old development player Joe Cooper.

Jorge Mendes, Jared Rand and Alejandro Sierra Garcia each registered twice for the champions, alongside Jose Del Moral Jiminez and Pablo Sanz Garcia.

However, a depleted York side were significantly missing skipper Fabinho Almeida, fourteen-goal leading marksman Daniel Pedras, and influential brothers Robbie and Jamie Bettson, leaving a number of youngsters to carry the fight.
