York City’s David Ferguson played as England ‘C’ were defeated 4-0 by Slovakia Under-23s in the International Challenge Trophy Final at the Ziar nad Hronom Stadium.

The visitors fell behind just before the break when Filip Orsula was on the end of a cross – and that should really have been added to when his side were awarded a penalty. But former York loanee defender Lubomir Satka struck the crossbar.

England were then suddenly reduced in number as Blyth Spartans’ Andrew Cartwright was sent-off for a challenge on David Ivan, who duly added a second goal straight after the break.

That was soon improved upon by Michal Fasko before Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Christian Herc went on to head in a fourth at the far post.

Dagenham & Redbridge’s Fejiri Okenabirhie and Aldershot Town’s Jake Gallagher had earlier threatened at the other end, with York left-back Ferguson supplying a couple of dangerous crosses.
