York City’s new manager Martin Gray will be taking a very keen watching brief at tonight’s FA Youth Cup tie against Harrogate Railway at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 7.45pm).

Forward duo Aaron Haswell and Ryan Edmondson have already been involved with the first-team this season while goalkeeper Ryan Whitley recently signed a two-year professional deal with the club.

“I had a quick five minutes with [youth-team manager] Steve Torpey and five minutes with the youth-team this morning,” Gray told York’s official YouTube channel. “I know we have got one or two real good prospects coming through.

“Youth is a big thing for me. We have got to invest in our own kids and this football club has always produced young kids and helped the club financially going forward,” he added. “We will introduce two or three on a weekly basis on a Monday morning and get them in that environment, training with the first team.

“There are two or three kids that have been mentioned already that we are really keen to look at [tonight] and in training sessions.”
