So how do you react when your team has lost yet again while failing to score for the fourth successive game in a part-time regional league?
That is the harsh reality York City supporters woke up to this morning – with any real prospect of an end-of-season play-off place also effectively over.
The Minstermen were already consigned to ridiculously trailing well behind the likes of neighbours Harrogate Town and Brackley Town in the final league table – and now almost certainly Chorley and Spennymoor Town, and perhaps even Bradford Park Avenue.
Exactly four years ago today, York were winning 1-0 at Oxford United while on their way to seventeen games unbeaten and the League Two play-offs under Nigel Worthington .
But the only highlight from their latest sorry encounter was one of their travelling number running onto the pitch and grabbing the ball before slamming it into the home net.
At least it gave their long-suffering faithful something to cheer about.

Refrained from commenting up to now. But this is now just as bad as McNamara's time. Would be relegated with this manager. He has to go now. Another complete flop

"The current league position is unacceptable," said Jason McGill on sacking Gary Mills, when #YCFC were in 7th.
Now we're in 9th.
A full-time team in an amateur league.
In 9th.
A team we've seen beat Man City & Burnley in the league.
In 9th.
In Division 6 (North).
What. A. Mess.— Chuitar (@chuitar) April 17, 2018
No way of making playoffs now. If I were manager, I'd play the youth team for the remainder of the fixtures. Our first team aren't fit to wear our shirt #ycfc

Bye bye play offs. Awful team selection #ycfc

An absolute disgrace that York can’t finish in the top seven of a league made up largely of part-time teams. McNamara, McGill, Mills, Gray and that gutless set of players all responsible. Shameful. #YCFC

Imagine going back in time to 2012 and telling yourself in 6 years well be getting done twice by FCUM you'd have thrown yourself off the Wembley way bridge #ycfc

Some teams do not deserve the support they receive #YCFC pic.twitter.com/Oh8Yg21nIk

So there are now 6 part time teams above #ycfc in this so called tin pot league #embarrassment

When you get beaten by a team containing Danny Racchi it really is time to pack up. #ycfc

Just spotted the #ycfc team bus heading west as I head east on the M62. Says everything that I’m not arsed.

It comes to something when I can't even be angry about #ycfc. Just awful, week in & week out.

I always wanted another season of regionalised football. Thank you #ycfc ???????????????????????? some effort this as a full time professional football club not the even make the playoffs….. well done ????????

The only people who have come out of this joke of a season with any credibility are the fans, for sticking with all the shit. The coaching staff, manager and players can all do one #ycfc

Proper feel for players like @barts_1 and @David_Ferguson7 them and the youths are the lads we want for next season players that care. #ycfc

When life gives you lemons…
Use the last games to give a few young guns from the youth team some first team XP. Make a disadvantage to something useful. #opportunities #springcleaning

Apologies for the embarrassing scene at the end of the game tonight! I'd just had enough. Least I can say I've scored in front of the faithful! #ycfc

@YorkCityFC How has Martin Gray not had the decency to leave yet with the salary thieves that call themselves professional footballers #ycfc
— Tom Hebblethwaite (@THebblethwaite) April 18, 2018
Dreadful times at @YorkCityFC but would it preferable, (deep breath) despite the terrible form, to keep Martin Gray and give him the summer to build his own side ? To be fair he’s inherited a real mess. Can’t be as bad as this season again surely (puts tin hat on) #ycfc

As we’re approaching the 25th anniversary of our first appearance at Wembley I think back to those days and what’s happened since. Playing in the 6th tier of football never entered my head. You only heard of it in a pre season friendly or the FA Cup. We’re stuck here now. #ycfc

We’re going to say goodbye to Bootham Crescent from Regional Football. That’s just insulting the old girl. #ycfc
— Jim Calverley (@JimCalverley) April 17, 2018
Awful performance tonight.
Keep the following players and 'rebuild'…AGAIN;
Ferguson, Kempster, Almond, Connolly & Bartlett
(Though I can't see the last 3 staying on part time terms)
The rest are either too old, too expensive or, in most cases, just not good enough.#ycfc

Think that’s my football season finished. I’m not watching this shit York team anymore the season. ???? #ycfc #GrayOut

Maybe I'll wake up. Behind the beer tent at Bradford PA, still arseholed, & it's all been a bad dream. #ycfc
