York City Ladies are still awaiting their first points of the season following a 5-2 home defeat to North East Regional Premier League newcomers Hartlepool United at Haxby Road.

Former Leeds striker Ellie Regan gave them the lead with her second goal in three games, but that was cancelled out as the visitors replied twice.

However, defender Gemma Croft – who already scored for City’s reserves against the same opponents last term – headed her colleagues back onto level terms.

But Hartlepool then struck three times in succession to record their first league win of the campaign, meaning it’s now five straight defeats for the home side.

Sarah Rowbotham (2), Nicola Duckling, Caitlin Bates (pen) and Justine Robinson were each on target for the visitors.

The Minsterbelles had earlier welcomed back goalkeeper Leigh Bamford following their narrow defeat at Wallsend Boys Club Ladies, but were still without a number of key players. Skipper Kayleigh Davis was named as their player of the game.

Elsewhere, newcomers Durham Cestria continue to power on at the top of the table with the 9-0 thrashing of Wakefield.

Norton & Stockton Ancients moved into second after winning 6-1 at East Yorkshire Carnegie. Anna Mawston and Nyci Thorns both scored twice alongside Chelsea Beetch and Victoria Hutchinson.

Meanwhile, RACA Tynedale are up into fourth with a narrow 4-3 triumph at newly-promoted Farsley Celtic.
