York City RTC discovery Jess Park was on target but England were denied by an injury-time Poland equaliser at the Women’s Under-17 European Championship finals in Lithuania.

The young Lionesses actually slipped into early second-half arrears when Paulina Filipczak handed their opponents the advantage.

However, England captain Park, 16, who is now at WSL1 leaders Manchester City having also skippered York City RTC’s Under-16s earlier this season, soon equalised – and Birmingham City’s Paris McKenzie then added a second goal.

But Paulina Tomasiak dramatically levelled matters to deny them victory in the second minute of added time.

England are in Group B and next take on Spain on Saturday morning, before facing Italy three days later.

The leading two teams in the group qualify for the semi-finals alongside either Germany, Netherlands, Finland or host nation Lithuania.
