York City take on Middlesbrough in their North Riding Senior Cup semi-final at Bootham Crescent later this evening (kick-off 7.00pm).

The Minstermen, who narrowly defeated another Teesside outfit Boro Rangers in the previous round, are likely to include a number of players with first-team experience.

Goalkeeper Luke Simpson, Connor Smith, Sam Muggleton, Clovis Kamdjo, Theo Wharton, Louis Almond and James Gray all featured in that earlier game, although it was youth-teamer Harry Thompson and Ste Keenan’s own-goal finally earning them a 2-1 victory.

Both Muggleton (Scarborough Athletic) and Gray (Tamworth) have since moved out on loan.

However, defensive trio Josh Law, Daniel Parslow and Marcus Williams, on loan striker Raul Correia and new teenage winger Vinnie Steels are also in contention this time around.

The visitors are coached by former York wide-man Paul Stephenson, who told Boro’s official website: “A lot of people have pulled together to make this game happen. We’re delighted we can play it now and we’re looking forward to what will probably be the toughest test yet for a lot of the players in our young side.”

Boro hammered Redcar Athletic 7-0 in the previous round while relying on their Under-23 development squad, as both they and their latest opponents entered the competition.

Whoever progresses will meet either Thornaby or Scarborough Athletic in the final.

Admission to the game is £3 adults and £1 concessions.
