Manager Martin Gray has offered a glowing testament to a young player released by predecessor Gary Mills.

Nineteen-year-old midfielder Tyler Walton re-signed for the Minstermen last week having impressed in reserve team fixtures against Port Vale and Mansfield Town.

He’d previously totalled just a single substitute appearance for the club after originally moving to Bootham Crescent in May 2016.

“He’s been great,” Gray told The Press. “He’s come in and given us a real hunger and desire. He’s the type of player I like because he’s honest and it’s not just about how good you are on the ball – it’s about what you do off it as well.

“We had to work hard off the ball against Kidderminster at the weekend and Tyler is about that as well.”
