Latest signing Franklyn Clarke was delighted to be a part of a winning York City team at the weekend.

The 23-year-old former Dorchester Town midfielder appeared as a second-half trialist and helped the visitors towards their opening pre-season victory at Stalybridge Celtic.

He was subsequently rewarded with a one-year deal and the option of a further twelve months following a successful two-week trial.

“I only come on for twenty minutes. I just wanted to do well and not make any mistakes,” Clarke admitted to BBC Radio York. “Played ten minutes centre midfield, done alright and then went centre-half – and thought I done alright there as well. Just delighted to get on the pitch and try show what I can do.

“From a personal point of view, just want to keep developing really,” he added. “I’ve never been in full-time football, so am sure coming in every day I’ll keep developing. Hopefully I do enough in training and keep working hard and it gets me a chance.”
