York City’s leading scorer Richard Brodie was looking forward to completing the task at Luton Town on Monday afternoon.

The Minstermen travel to Kenilworth Road with a 1-0 lead from the first-leg of their play-off semi-final thanks to Brodie’s late winner at Bootham Crescent.

And if they can force a repeat of their earlier league draw at the same venue this season, it would confirm them a Wembley final against either Oxford United or Rushden & Diamonds in just under a fortnight’s time.

“It will be a great occasion and a great game to play in,” Brodie told The Press. “If you can`t get motivated for matches like this you shouldn`t be in the game and I am really looking forward to it.

“We have a lead to protect and, hopefully, if I get another goal, it will be just as important as the one on Thursday,” he continued.

“Then maybe, we could be looking at another game at Wembley but, this time, it would be a play-off final to get into the League and we would be better equipped than we were in the FA Trophy final.”

The opening stages of the contest will no doubt prove really crucial as the Hatters look to battle their way back towards equality, with York boss Martin Foyle in turn hoping that the pressure exerted from an expectant crowd could start to seriously affect the home side.

“They will know they have to get at us at their place,” Brodie added. “When we went there earlier in the season, we should have had a penalty but you don`t get decisions like that at those sort of places.

“Maybe if we can keep them at bay for the first 20 minutes though, the crowd will get on their case.”
